Industrial fans are an important part of keeping any large commercial space comfortable and properly ventilated. I recently went through the process of selecting, purchasing and installing a heavy-duty industrial fan for my warehouse facility, and I wanted to share my experience for anyone else considering a purchase. After researching different industrial fan options on the market, I ultimately chose the Hampton Bay Industrial 86-inch High Velocity Fan, and have been very satisfied with its performance.

Why I Needed an Industrial Fan

I own and operate a medium-sized warehouse that stores and distributes sporting goods equipment to retail stores. The warehouse itself is about 15,000 square feet, with tall 20 foot ceilings to accommodate high shelving units. While we had some wall-mounted fans, they just weren’t providing enough air circulation throughout the large space. This caused the warehouse to feel stuffy and overly warm, especially during the summer months here in Florida.

I asked around for recommendations from other local warehouse owners, and there was a consensus that an industrial high-velocity floor fan would provide the type of airflow I needed. I needed something powerful enough to keep employees comfortable while working hard unloading stock, and prevent inventory damage from excessive heat.

Key Features I Required in an Industrial Fan

Before starting my research on industrial fan options, I made a list of my must-have features:

  • Powerful airflow – This was my top requirement, as the whole point was improving air circulation in a large commercial space. I needed a strong fan capable of high RPMs (rotations per minute).
  • Adjustable height – I wanted a fan head that I could angle and adjust to direct airflow where needed.
  • Durability – The fan would be running for 8+ hours daily, so it needed to withstand heavy continuous use. Commercial-grade construction was a must.
  • Safety features – The fast-moving fan blades posed a potential safety hazard, so guards and screens were important.
  • Energy efficiency – I wanted something reasonably energy efficient to keep costs down for all-day use.
  • Warehouse-friendly design – It had to be an open floor model that wouldn’t take up our limited shelf space.
  • Cost effective – I had a roughly $500 budget for this purchase. Value for money was key.

Why I Chose the Hampton Bay 86-inch Industrial Fan

With my criteria in mind, I did my research comparing industrial fan specs and brands. The Hampton Bay 86-inch Industrial High-Velocity Fan really stood out as meeting all of my needs at an affordable price point.

Here’s a summary of why this model worked for my warehouse space and requirements:

  • 86-inch metal blades – The huge 5-blade design could move a massive amount of air to maximum effect. The RPMs were rated at an impressive 1725.
  • 1/2 horsepower motor – This commercial-grade single phase motor had the power to drive the airflow I was looking for.
  • Adjustable tilt head – This allowed directing the airflow at different angles up to 90 degrees.
  • Steel safety grill – The protective wire grill kept fingers safely away from fast blades.
  • Wall-mounted control – Variable speed settings were conveniently controlled from a wall mount.
  • $429.99 price – This fan delivered tremendous commercial airflow at a reasonable price point that worked with my budget.

Shopping Experience and Making the Purchase

Once I had researched and settled on the Hampton Bay model, I looked for the best deal available. These are widely sold through third party retailers like Home Depot, Walmart, Lowe’s and more. Prices were fairly consistent around the $400-$450 range.

I ended up purchasing through Home Depot because of their reliable fast shipping to my location. Ordering online was quick and easy. I was impressed that despite the large size, the fan arrived in just 3 business days.

The packaging was mostly assembled, with the fan head detached but easy to connect with included hardware. Assembly took me less than 30 minutes – this was one of the simpler installations I’ve done.

Installing the Industrial Fan in My Warehouse

Mounting the Hampton Bay fan took a bit of planning to determine the optimal placement. I wanted it positioned where it could freely circulate air across the majority of the warehouse floor space. There were no overhead beams, so I opted to mount it along one wall aiming diagonally.

Assembly was very straightforward following the manual. I installed and secured the two wall mount brackets, and then lifted the fan into place and bolted it on firmly. There was a bit of wiring work to connect the power cord and wall control.

The fan was heavier than expected once fully assembled (about 65 lbs), so I’d recommend having a helper for lifting and securing it to the wall brackets. I used a small ladder to reach the top screws and make sure the fan was anchored solidly in place. The whole installation took around 1 hour.

Hampton Bay Fan Performance

I’m happy to say the Hampton Bay Industrial 86-inch Fan has exceeded my expectations and completely eliminated the airflow issues in my warehouse. This fan lives up to its “high velocity” name and really churns out some incredible wind power. Even running at medium speed, the breeze reaches clear across the warehouse!

My employees immediately noticed the improvement in comfort on hot days. Even in dead summer heat, the constant air movement makes the warehouse temperature feel considerably cooler. I no longer have concerns about heat damage to my inventory either.

The adjustable tilt is great for angling the airflow precisely where it’s needed most. I occasionally re-position it between the warehouse shelves. The wall mount control is very convenient for changing speeds as conditions require.

Ongoing Usage and Maintenance

I run the Hampton Bay Industrial Fan daily for at least 8 hours – sometimes longer during peak summer weeks when extra cooling is needed most. Even with heavy continuous use, it shows no signs of wear and tear or performance issues. It runs incredibly smooth and quiet for such a powerful fan.

Maintenance has been minimal so far. I make sure to periodically wipe down the fan blades to remove any accumulated dust and dirt buildup. Keeping the blades clean optimizes airflow. The open design doesn’t collect much dust to begin with.

The only hiccup I had was a short in the wall control unit about 5 months after installation. However, I was able to easily order and replace the controller module. So far that’s been the only maintenance needed, which is impressive for daily commercial use.

Is the Hampton Bay Industrial Fan Right for You?

For anyone considering an heavy duty industrial fan purchase for their commercial space, I highly recommend the Hampton Bay model. While it’s affordably priced under $500, it outperforms many pricier competitors. The 86-inch size and powerful airflow truly cools even the largest warehouse or shop spaces.

This fan hits all the key criteria – strong airflow, adjustable position, energy efficiency, durable steel construction and built-in safety features. Installation and maintenance has proven quick and simple. I can’t imagine our warehouse without it!

If you need serious airflow for a large commercial facility, check out the Hampton Bay 86-inch Industrial High Velocity fan. I doubt you’ll find a better value industrial fan option. Just be ready to anchor it securely, because this fan packs a serious wind punch! Let me know if you have any other specific questions on my experience with this model.
